"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Called to Serve
Bishop Blanchet strives to inspire students to transform the world around them through a lifelong commitment to faith, scholarship and service. In giving of their time and talents, they will live the Gospel values of courage, community, hope, love, mercy, justice, humility, and discipleship by acting beyond their own self-interest and in solidarity with others. Through working with various nonprofit organizations, students will come to a greater understanding of the world in which they live and the injustices which need their courageous action.
SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS
All Bishop Blanchet Students are expected to complete 20 hours of service at an accredited nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency by May 15, 2027. All hours must be completed, logged, and verified on MobileServe, and students are encouraged to have 10 hours of service logged into MobileServe by January 8. (Note: Students may begin logging service hours for the 2026-2027 school year on June 1.)
Please Note:
- Students can earn a maximum of 5 service hours for volunteer work at an auction or fundraiser.
- Hours must be verified by site supervisors at accredited 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. (Family members cannot verify hours.)
- Independent projects such as making food at home, helping a neighbor or cleaning a classroom will not fulfill Blanchet's service hour requirements.
- Service hours need to be completed outside of regular school hours and may not exceed 4 hours on a school day.
- Service hour completion will be noted on a student's transcript each year.
Service Learning Areas
Animals and the Environment
Serve by caring for animals or protecting the environment through conservation and sustainability efforts.
Youth and Families
Support the well-being and development of young people and families through education, mentorship, or family services. This can include helping with events that support youth and families at your current school, a previous school, or a place of worship.
People who are Elderly, Ill, or Disabled
Offer care, companionship, or support to individuals experiencing age-related challenges, illness, or disabilities.
People Experiencing Poverty
Aid and support efforts that address food insecurity, housing instability and economic hardship.
Students are encouraged to have 10 hours of service logged and completed by January 8, 2027. All 20 hours must be logged by May 15, 2027.
Summer Service
Incoming 9th-grade students and transfer students who wish to complete service over the summer should keep a log of their service that includes the service organization, date(s) of service, site supervisor's name and email address, number of hours served, and a brief reflection on their experience. To receive credit for these hours, students must log them in MobileServe once they receive their account information.
Returning students will need to log their summer service hours on MobileServe each time they complete service. Also, because email verification from site supervisors can be challenging, we strongly encourage students to download the MobileServe app so they can get verification on site on the day of service.
Incoming 9th graders & Transfer students
Extensions
To request an extension, students must have at least 10 service hours completed, logged, and verified in MobileServe by April 2. Students must submit the extension request form and provide a sufficient explanation for why they are unable to complete their service hours by the May 10 deadline. All extension requests must be submitted no later than May 1.
Students who are unable to complete their service hours due to a prolonged illness, injury, mental health challenge, or other extenuating circumstances are encouraged to communicate directly with the Associate Director of DEI and Service.
MobileServe
Students are required to log their service hours on MobileServe before they can be approved by the Service Coordinator at Blanchet. Students will receive email notifications from MobileServe once their hours have been approved or denied.
